Kite Pharma, a Gilead company, introduced a new cytometry-based technique for analyzing individual lentiviral vector particles. The approach is intended to improve characterization of future in vivo CAR T products beyond traditional methods like Western blotting by capturing particle-level attributes. The workflow is built around flow virometry, where individual particles pass through detectors to quantify features such as size and proteins on the vector surface. Kite says this preserves distribution differences between particles that can be lost when averaged across bulk assays. Kite’s plan is to use the technology through development, including batch-to-batch consistency assessment, and it is also exploring quantitation bead sets for viral surface protein measurement as it works to scale robustly.
