4basebio and Genezen announced a collaboration aimed at viral vector manufacturing using 4basebio’s hairpin DNA (hpDNA) technology. Under the deal, Genezen will provide hpDNA-based constructs through a cell-free enzymatic process that produces double-stranded, covalently closed hairpin constructs intended to reduce DNA mass and transfection reagent requirements for AAV production. The companies also framed hpDNA as supporting regulatory and quality needs, citing absence of bacterial sequences, antibiotic resistance genes, and host-cell contaminants relative to plasmid DNA approaches. For contract development and manufacturing organizations, the promise is tighter material efficiency and simplified risk management for upstream DNA inputs. The partnership underscores how platform differentiation in synthetic DNA is increasingly being packaged directly into CDMO workflows for gene therapy developers.
