Vertex Pharmaceuticals announced it will acquire Crinetics Pharmaceuticals for $10 billion, or about $85 per share, in a deal designed to strengthen the Boston company’s commercial portfolio in endocrinology. Both companies’ boards have approved the transaction, and Vertex expects to close it in the third quarter of 2026. Crinetics’ commercial product is Palsonify, launched last year for acromegaly, a rare endocrine disorder. Vertex will also pick up Crinetics’ late-stage pipeline, including a therapy for congenital adrenal hyperplasia that is in advanced development. The acquisition follows a period of active corporate development for Vertex and comes as larger drugmakers increasingly prioritize late-stage assets and revenue-generating products to offset pipeline risk. Crinetics shares surged after the announcement, underscoring investor focus on the scale of the price and Vertex’s intent to broaden its steady-state growth.
