United Therapeutics agreed to buy Thymmune Therapeutics for $140 million upfront, with up to $160 million in additional milestone payments tied to clinical and regulatory progress. The target is preclinical regenerative cell therapies focused on rebuilding thymic function. Thymmune’s platform converts human induced pluripotent stem cells into thymic cells designed to mature and restore T-cell function. Its lead candidate, THY-100, is in preclinical development for congenital athymia, a condition affecting patients born without a thymus. United’s larger strategy extends beyond congenital athymia toward transplant tolerance and other immune-mediated indications if proof of concept holds. The deal also highlights continued corporate investment in cell-based approaches that aim for functional immune reconstitution.
