Forge Genetics, a UK-based gene editing startup spun out from the University of Nottingham, has raised £2 million (approximately $2.7 million) in seed funding led by Mercia Ventures and supported by the British Business Bank's Midlands Engine Investment Fund II. The company aims to develop its novel Forge editing technology as an alternative to CRISPR, targeting bacterial strain engineering and future applications in human and animal cells. Over the next two years, Forge plans to double its workforce to accelerate technology development and commercial endeavors. This investment marks a significant step in advancing next-generation gene editing platforms in the UK biotech ecosystem.
