UCI Health launched a Phase Ib/IIa clinical trial evaluating hNSC-01, an embryonic stem cell-derived neural stem cell therapy for Huntington’s disease. The trial uses neural stem cells delivered to the brain via a stereotactic neurological mapping and targeting system, with early safety results shared by investigators indicating no serious adverse events reported to date from the first patient dosed in May. UCI Health and collaborating university GMP manufacturing at UC Davis support the trial’s translational pathway, with the study planned to enroll 21 participants aged 18 to 65 with early-stage Huntington’s. For the field, the start of the world’s first in-human embryonic stem cell-derived program in Huntington’s provides a key test case for stem-cell manufacturing, delivery precision, and clinical safety in a progressive neurodegeneration setting where disease modification remains an unmet need.
