Maryland’s Department of Health awarded more than $520,000 to 18 fire departments to run multi-cancer early detection screening using 20/20 BioLabs’ OneTest blood assay. The funding supports testing of more than 1,400 firefighters under Maryland’s Professional and Volunteer Firefighter Innovative Cancer Screening Technologies Grant Program. The company said OneTest for Cancer combines protein tumor markers with machine-learning AI and screens for more than a dozen cancer types, including lung, pancreatic, ovarian, and liver cancer. The firm is also planning to pursue coverage with CMS and cited prior testing data from firefighters nationwide to support real-world evidence. The state-funded rollout is positioned as a scale step that can feed payer conversations around MCED utility and coverage criteria.
