An experimental whole-virus influenza vaccine candidate, BPL-1357, generated safety and broad immune signals in its first human phase 1 trial. In the study, the inactivated vaccine was reported to be well tolerated and induced antibody responses against multiple influenza subtypes, with results strongest through the intramuscular route. The work adds human immunogenicity evidence for an approach that aims to broaden strain coverage. For developers, the phase 1 readout is a key early checkpoint: it supports continued dose selection and regimen optimization ahead of larger efficacy-focused studies. The trial’s immunogenicity profile will also be monitored for durability and for alignment with circulating strains as the program advances.
