A consultant-led virtual urgent care clinic at Cork University Hospital managed 73.1% of 2,584 referred patients without any emergency department attendance during its first six months, with no adverse events reported. The real-world utilization results add evidence that structured virtual triage can safely absorb a meaningful share of urgent-care demand. For healthcare systems under cost and capacity pressure, the study supports operational models that shift lower-acuity cases away from ED settings—an outcome that can influence adoption of digital care pathways.
