Ohio State reported early phase I results for an enhanced CAR T-cell approach targeting three B-cell proteins and incorporating OX40 costimulation. In the trial, CAR T cells were manufactured in six days and infused fresh, with remissions reported in relapsed B-cell blood cancer patients and minimal side effects described. The most actionable element for industry is the combination of antigen breadth (three B-cell protein targets) and a short, fresh-manufacturing window aimed at improving timing and feasibility for heavily pretreated patients. OX40 costimulation is intended to support T-cell function and persistence. While phase I data cannot yet establish durable efficacy across larger populations, it provides an early clinical signal that platform engineering plus manufacturing speed can be paired in next-wave cellular therapies. It also informs competitive positioning for other “fresh” CAR concepts under development.
