Spatial Genomics and Caltech filed a lawsuit alleging 10x Genomics’ Xenium spatial biology platform infringes patents related to multiplex labeling using sequential hybridization barcoding. The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware and cites five U.S. patents assigned to Caltech. In its SEC filing, 10x said it believes the claims are meritless and intends to defend. Spatial Genomics also moved to keep parts of the dispute under seal. The dispute lands as spatial biology demand remains elevated: 10x reported strong Atera bookings and shipped planning constraints, underscoring how IP leverage can affect adoption timelines and customer procurement choices.
