Takara Bio and Resistomap said they are strengthening their partnership to deliver a high-throughput antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance workflow built for environmental sampling. The SmartChip Biosecurity Platform combines Takara Bio’s SmartChip ND real-time PCR system with Resistomap’s cloud-based environmental intelligence software. The SmartChip ND system is described as enabling parallel screening at very high data density—up to 5,184 AMR data points per run—aimed at quantifying antibiotic resistance genes at low abundance from complex samples in about three hours. Resistomap’s Helsinki-based platform then converts the output into longitudinal views across locations and at the gene level. The companies also provide SmartChip ByDesign AMR 96 kits with validated primer sets targeting 96 AMR-related genes, including resistance genes, pathogenic bacteria, mobile genetic elements, and microbial source tracking markers, with plans for more region- and target-specific assay kits.
