Analysis of over 300,000 Swedish births indicates that maternal age above 40 significantly increases risks of stillbirth, prematurity, low birth weight, and neonatal hypoglycemia. Using data from the National Medical Birth Register, researchers stratified outcomes across age bands, revealing near doubling of stillborn rates in mothers aged 45+. While serious complications remain uncommon, the risks rise incrementally, offering vital data to inform obstetric care for late maternal age pregnancies.
