QuantumCell has signed a licensing deal with AlzeCure Pharma to acquire global rights to Alzheimer’s drug candidate ACD856, following AlzeCure’s prior partnerships including Eli Lilly’s out-licensing of ACD680. Under the agreement, AlzeCure receives $12 million upfront, including $5 million as equity, with development and commercial milestone payments that could reach as high as $2.2 billion. ACD856 is a small-molecule positive allosteric modulator of Trk receptors, designed to engage NGF/TrkA and BDNF/TrkB signaling pathways. AlzeCure says preclinical work supports neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory activity alongside cognitive and antidepressant-relevant findings. The company recently reported Phase 1b data indicating ACD856 is safe and well-tolerated at high doses, which is now providing the clinical runway for the next development stage under the new ownership structure. For the Alzheimer’s competitive landscape, the deal underscores continued appetite for Trk-modulating, multi-pathway small molecules—particularly assets with early human safety signals and translational preclinical rationale.
