Spatial Genomics and Caltech filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware accusing 10x Genomics’ Xenium spatial biology platform of infringing five patents covering sequential hybridization and multiplex labeling methods. Spatial Genomics also moved to keep portions of the case under seal. 10x Genomics disclosed in an SEC filing that it believes the claims lack merit and plans to defend the company vigorously. The patents asserted are assigned to Caltech and relate primarily to labeling and imaging cellular targets, especially RNA. The dispute lands as spatial platforms remain central to both discovery research and clinical-translational workflows, increasing the stakes for licensing and platform roadmaps.
