10x Genomics launched Atera, a new in situ spatial biology platform designed to deliver whole-transcriptome profiling at high throughput while raising the bar on plex capacity. The instrument is intended for single-cell resolution across tissues, with shipping planned for the second half of the year. 10x positioned Atera as a step up from its Xenium system, citing more throughput per run, higher plex capacity for targeted assays, and sensitivity improvements for whole-transcriptome measurements. The company set a list price of $495,000 and estimated whole-transcriptome reagent costs around $2,200 per sample. 10x also introduced a cloud analysis platform and said several service-provider and research partners will receive access early, with Macrogen and Psomagen expected to acquire multiple instruments for services.
