South Korea's Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and Korea National Institute of Health selected Pacific Biosciences’ HiFi long‑read sequencing as the primary platform for a national pangenome reference project. PacBio will provide whole‑genome HiFi sequencing, full‑length RNA analysis and chromosome‑scale technologies to assemble telomere‑to‑telomere genomes and capture structural variation. The project aims to sequence more than 1,000 whole genomes and integrate data with the Human Pangenome Reference Consortium (HPRC). PacBio’s technology selection reflects demand for long‑read capabilities to resolve complex genomic regions—an attribute important to clinical and population genomics efforts worldwide.
