Researchers at ETH Zürich developed MenstruAI, a wearable sensor-integrated menstrual pad that detects disease-related molecules directly in menstrual blood via a colorimetric lateral flow assay. This non-invasive platform, validated through proof-of-concept studies, enables real-time monitoring of health biomarkers correlated with systemic blood levels, offering potential for early detection of conditions such as diabetes, HPV infection, and endometriosis. The user-friendly, smartphone-compatible technology could transform menstrual blood into an accessible diagnostic fluid, addressing a previously underutilized resource.
