Researchers led by Adam Abate at University of California, San Francisco, adapted Mission Bio’s Tapestri single-cell analysis platform to enable affordable, accessible single-cell microbial genome sequencing. Their EASi-seq method incorporates manual gel encapsulation and lysis, allowing isolation and whole-genome sequencing of individual microbes without custom microfluidics, generating tens of thousands of genomes for studying microbial populations. Published in Advanced Science, this innovation broadens single-cell genomics application to microbiology.
