Samsung Biologics announced an all-cash tender offer of roughly $1.8 billion to acquire Switzerland-based PolyPeptide Group, a CDMO specializing in peptide-based APIs. The acquisition is designed to expand Samsung’s manufacturing and service capabilities beyond antibodies and ADCs into peptides, with stated emphasis on obesity and diabetes modalities including GLP-1-related therapies. PolyPeptide operates an integrated development-to-commercial model across sites in Sweden, Belgium, France, the US, and India, and it brings a pipeline of active peptide projects into the combined platform. Samsung described the move as more than incremental capacity, aiming to secure manufacturing know-how and a broader customer base. This kind of modality-driven consolidation is increasingly relevant as obesity and incretin programs scale globally and as companies scramble to lock in peptide production capacity. The deal also signals that AI and automation in manufacturing may become a competitive differentiator for peptide CDMOs as demand increases.
