Alamar Biosciences and Nightingale Health announced their UK Biobank Protein Study, termed UKB-PRISM, to test whether an ultrasensitive proteomics platform can detect scarce blood proteins linked to neurodegeneration across 80,000 blood samples. The work is supported by the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Alzheimer’s Research UK, and LifeArc and is expected to run through the end of 2027. The companies said Nightingale will run measurements in its own laboratories using Alamar’s NULISA platform, which pairs capture antibodies tagged with DNA oligonucleotides and reads DNA reporters via next-generation sequencing. The study is designed to map signals that may precede symptom onset. Stakeholders including Michael J. Fox Foundation biomarker scientists and LifeArc leadership positioned the dataset as a resource for evaluating biomarkers, informing therapeutic research, and potentially improving diagnosis for rare dementias where symptoms overlap with other conditions.
