A bipartisan U.S. Senate bill was reintroduced to increase vigilance around foreign companies manufacturing drugs in the U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain. The proposed “Pharmaceutical Investment Oversight and Accountability Act” would require government reporting that maps foreign manufacturing footprint and evaluates how foreign investment affects domestic production. Backers cited dependency on foreign supply for key starting materials and APIs, pointing to published data suggesting most KSMs for amoxicillin and a large share of heparin inputs come from China. The bill would also prompt assessments of who owns manufacturing companies, not just where drugs are produced. In parallel, CMS proposed a 2027 physician fee schedule change that would bar Medicare payment for remote patient monitoring delivered by third-party vendors, following Office of Inspector General concerns about fraud in the category.
