FDA’s chief scientist said the agency plans to add aging and longevity medicine to its planned update of the Focus Areas of Regulatory Science (FARS) report. Steven Kozlowski, MD, said the updated FARS is expected early in FY2027, after discussion at the 13th Aging Research & Drug Discovery Meeting (ARDD 2026) hosted at Harvard. Kozlowski and FDA officials framed the work as an effort to identify shared, pre-competitive endpoints that could support feasible clinical trial designs and improve regulatory acceptance. Acting Chief of Staff Lowell M. Zeta, JD, called longevity and healthspan an important agency topic. The announcement matters for developers designing geroscience-aligned programs because FARS updates can influence priorities for guidance, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory science investments—effectively shaping what evidence frameworks get attention next.
