United Therapeutics agreed to acquire Thymmune Therapeutics in a $300 million regenerative medicine deal, adding preclinical thymic cell therapy development to its portfolio. Under the terms described, the transaction includes $140 million upfront and up to $160 million in milestone payments linked to clinical and regulatory progress. Thymmune’s technology converts human induced pluripotent stem cells into thymic cells intended to mature in vivo and restore T-cell function. Its lead candidate, THY-100, targets congenital athymia, an ultra-rare disorder in which infants lack a functioning thymus and face severe infection risk. The acquisition reinforces United’s strategy around expanding organ supply alternatives and immunomodulatory therapeutics, positioning thymus-focused cell replacement as a potential upstream solution to immune reconstitution needs.
