For the first time, researchers from the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia and Dexeus University Hospital have recorded human embryo implantation in real time using 3D microscopy on synthetic collagen-based uterine tissue models. This pioneering achievement unveils the biomechanical forces embryos exert during implantation, a critical but poorly understood stage linked to infertility and miscarriage. Comparative studies with mouse embryos highlighted conserved integrin-mediated adhesion mechanisms, providing new insights for reproductive medicine and potential IVF improvements.
