A randomized controlled trial of 196 patients found a blunt-needle, trans-fornix conjunctival retrobulbar block reduced injection pain and improved ocular akinesia compared with a conventional transcutaneous approach. The technique uses a curved blunt-tip needle delivered through the conjunctiva. For ophthalmic procedural workflows, the result targets a common pain-control and motion-optimization challenge during local anesthesia. Improved ocular akinesia can directly influence surgical conditions and patient comfort. The evidence is clinically oriented, but adoption will depend on practitioner training requirements and consistency of outcomes across centers. The trial’s design supports that this is not only a technical tweak but a measurable intervention in patient-reported pain and procedural functional endpoints.
