NewBiologix and Synastra Biotechnology entered an agreement to develop a stable producer cell line for Synastra’s investigational Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) gene therapy. The deal centers on using NewBiologix’s Xcell stable manufacturing platform to generate and characterize a research cell bank. The collaboration is designed to address early manufacturing challenges by building a genetically defined, reproducible, and scalable system that can support the program’s progression to clinical translation and future commercial supply. NewBiologix said the work could enable a smoother transition to a commercial license option. For gene-therapy developers, the partnership highlights how upstream cell-line engineering is becoming a decisive lever for systemic therapies where rAAV vector doses are particularly high.
