Recent advances in quantum and photonic technologies mark significant progress for computing and imaging disciplines. Researchers at the University of Chicago engineered protein-based biological qubits, overcoming prior assumptions about incompatibility of living systems with quantum coherence. Concurrently, teams from Peking University and other institutions unveiled a versatile reconfigurable integrated photonic chip that supports multiple neural network architectures for AI applications. Complementary innovations include a photonic origami technique folding ultra-thin glass into 3D optical devices, promising novel microfabricated photonic components.
