Researchers at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) and collaborators published Nature Biotechnology work showing how to guide AlphaFold using experimental data to address its tendency to collapse heterogeneous structures into a single dominant conformation. The approach is aimed at producing models that better reflect conditions that change local protein structure. Separately, Nature Biotechnology also reported an AlphaFold3-based method that infers measurement-consistent protein ensembles, using experimental observations to constrain generative predictions. Together, the publications advance “ensemble-aware” structure modeling that could improve downstream drug discovery and protein engineering.
