Molecular Instruments’ HiFi Encoder kit is making multiplex fluorescent microscopy faster for researchers who need multiple primary antibodies from the same species. At the Marine Biological Laboratory, University of Chicago developmental biologist Nipam Patel and his team tested the reagent system on Hox-protein antibody labeling. The kit uses oligo hairpins to amplify the antibody signal and relies on distinct encoder labels per fluorophore, avoiding the typical limitation when monoclonal antibodies share a single host species. Patel said labeling takes about 10 minutes, and the workflow reduces the complexity of other multiplexing approaches. The development is likely to interest antibody reagent users in research environments where multiplex targets and time constraints limit experimental throughput.
