Kobe University researchers reported preclinical efficacy for mass-produced iPSC-derived allogeneic gamma delta T cells in colorectal cancer. In mouse colorectal cancer xenograft models, the off-the-shelf therapy suppressed tumor growth using a reproducible manufacturing approach designed to overcome the cost and timing limits of autologous cell therapies. The team described an 80,000-fold multiplication process without animal-derived extracts or cells, and they said the resulting γδT cells attack patient-derived colorectal cancer tissues implanted into mice. The work is published in Stem Cell Reports. This adds to the growing push toward scalable cell therapies for solid tumors, where standard CAR-T approaches face performance and logistical constraints.
