Researchers publishing in Nature Communications reported that a bacteriophage‑antibiotic combination successfully cleared refractory peritoneal dialysis‑related peritonitis caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae. The preclinical study led by Yang, Wu and Jiang demonstrates phage‑antibiotic synergy against a notoriously hard‑to‑treat pathogen and suggests a route to salvage-resistant infections. The work adds to a growing evidence base supporting clinical development of phage therapeutics as adjuncts to antibiotics. Phage therapy uses viruses that selectively kill bacteria; combining them with antibiotics may overcome resistance mechanisms and restore clinical response where antibiotics alone fail.
