Researchers published a Nature Communications study showing a bacteriophage–antibiotic combination cured refractory peritoneal dialysis–related peritonitis caused by multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in preclinical models. The team led by Yang, Wu, and Jiang reported synergistic effects that reduced bacterial load and improved survival in the experimental system. The result highlights phage therapy as a practical adjunct to antibiotics for biofilm-associated, drug-resistant infections and sets the stage for translational work in peritoneal dialysis patients, where treatment failures carry high morbidity. Clinical translation will require CMC scaling of phage products, regulatory clarity, and controlled trials to validate safety and efficacy.
