Samsung Biologics announced an all-cash tender offer to acquire peptide CDMO PolyPeptide Group AG for about CHF 1.46 billion (roughly $1.8 billion), positioning the South Korean contract manufacturer for a faster ramp in peptide therapeutics. The offer price is CHF 44.31 per share, and PolyPeptide’s board has unanimously recommended the deal. Samsung signaled the acquisition as part of a strategic shift beyond its antibody and antibody-drug conjugate strengths, targeting demand for peptide modalities including GLP-1 therapies for obesity and diabetes. The company also cited PolyPeptide’s integrated development-to-commercial footprint across Sweden, Belgium, France, the US, and India. The transaction also brings in PolyPeptide’s manufacturing heritage—its history includes production of over 1,000 therapeutic peptides—as well as a late-stage pipeline of active peptide projects that Samsung expects to translate into immediate commercial opportunities.
