A U.S. jury found that Parse Biosciences, a Qiagen subsidiary, willfully infringed three patents held by Scale Biosciences—assets acquired by 10x Genomics in 2025—relating to methods for identifying multiple epitopes in cells. The jury also upheld the validity of all three asserted patents. 10x said it received more than $4.8 million in damages tied to Parse’s Evercode Whole Transcriptome product sales from February 2021 through June 30, 2026, applying a 14% royalty rate to those infringing sales. 10x also signaled it will pursue enhanced damages and attorneys’ fees and seek a permanent injunction to stop further infringement in the U.S. For single-cell technology developers, the verdict reinforces that next-gen assay differentiation may be constrained not just by technical feasibility but also by the scope and enforceability of IP surrounding multiplexing and barcoding approaches.
