Recent studies highlight novel Parkinson's disease biomarkers derived from peripheral and brain vasculature. One cohort study published in npj Parkinson’s Disease revealed pathological changes in cutaneous nerve fibers, offering potential for early diagnosis through accessible skin biopsies. Concurrently, research identified perivascular fluid diffusivity alterations detectable by advanced diffusion-weighted MRI as predictive of early clinical decline. These findings advance the understanding of peripheral and glymphatic involvement in Parkinson’s and may refine prognostic tools and therapeutic targets.
