Novo Nordisk is funding an oral biologics push with a large alliance to Orbis Medicines targeting cardiometabolic diseases. Under the agreement, Novo can pay up to $1.4 billion in upfront and downstream milestones while Orbis applies its AI-enabled macrocycle design approach to create orally bioavailable molecules intended to reduce reliance on injections. The deal reflects how macrocyclic peptides are being positioned to overcome absorption limits that have constrained traditional oral peptide candidates—where the highest oral doses can dwarf injectable exposure due to partial breakdown before systemic delivery. For biotech strategy teams, the Novo–Orbis pact is a clear signal that oral biologics are moving from platform experimentation toward scalable, multi-program partnerships.
