An international team led by RCSI and The Institute of Cancer Research, London, used an AI tool called iPhenMap to analyze about 2,000 colorectal tumors and identify drug vulnerabilities in microsatellite-stable (MSS) disease. The work integrates multi-omics and single-cell data with clinical information to construct tumor maps designed to point toward targetable combinations. The study highlighted previously unrecognized dependencies and reported lab-model evidence for combinations including at least one approved targeted drug, trametinib. While the findings remain preclinical, the investigators presented the dataset as a roadmap for drug repurposing and for further translational development. For MSS colorectal cancer—where therapeutic options can be limited after standard lines—the approach is notable for combining computational vulnerability discovery with follow-on in vivo testing.
