An international team led by RCSI and The Institute of Cancer Research, London used the AI tool iPhenMap to analyze around 2,000 microsatellite-stable colorectal tumor samples and build multiomic tumor maps. The work uncovered previously unrecognized vulnerabilities and suggested drug combinations, including the approved targeted agent trametinib, that showed promise in laboratory models. The study, published in Cancer Cell, integrates multiomic, single-cell, and clinical data to stratify MSS biology and prioritize combinatorial treatment hypotheses. Authors described the findings as a resource for repurposing existing drugs and for designing next steps toward clinical evaluation. For MSS CRC—where many patients have limited options—the preclinical vulnerability map provides a structured starting point for trials aimed at extending benefit beyond current standard therapy approaches.
