Kobe University researchers reported preclinical efficacy for mass-produced, allogeneic iPSC-derived gamma delta T cells against colorectal cancer. Writing in Stem Cell Reports, the team described off-the-shelf γδT cells that suppressed tumor growth in mouse xenograft models using patient-derived tissue. The work focused on generating reproducible γδT cells without patient-specific customization, citing a reported 80,000-fold multiplication and production workflow that avoids animal cell extracts. The authors emphasized that γδT cells can target tumors in an MHC-unrestricted manner using a single type of γδ T-cell receptor. If the approach translates, it could address solid-tumor limitations of current autologous cell therapies by shifting the cost and turnaround bottlenecks toward standardized manufacturing.
