France-based Ocean Diagnostics reported a pilot clinical evaluation showing its rapid bloodstream-infection test matched conventional blood cultures at 100% in a 110-patient ICU study at Bordeaux University Hospital. The Ocean Dx test combines high-volume sample prep, pan-bacterial PCR, nanopore sequencing and a 1,000-pathogen database to analyze viable bacteria in up to 10 mL of whole blood and currently returns results in about five hours. Antoine Dewitte, the principal investigator at Bordeaux, said the assay detected infections missed by culture and the company plans CE-mark clinical trials next year with a target commercial turnaround of roughly 3.5 hours. Ocean Diagnostics intends to pursue FDA clearance for the platform after European regulatory steps.
