Kailera Therapeutics said its triple-acting obesity injection generated double-digit weight loss in a Phase 1 dose-escalation study in China with partner Hengrui Pharmaceuticals. In 12 participants, dosing from 2 mg weekly up to 12 mg by 12 weeks corresponded to up to 16% weight loss, with Kailera preparing a Phase 1 program outside China and Hengrui pushing the asset into Phase 2. Kailera’s candidate, KAI-4729, is positioned as a “triple-G” program built on GLP-1 plus GIP and a third hormone mechanism aimed at potentially enhancing metabolic effects. The company’s approach puts it in direct competition with other incretin-based entrants, including triple-agonist efforts already in mid-to-late stages. The update also lands as the company highlights capital access tied to its IPO funding, which it said supports continued development through 2028. For the obesity field, the readout adds another early efficacy datapoint as companies race to differentiate next-generation incretin regimens.
