Eli Lilly disclosed updated safety and tolerability results for retatrutide, its next-generation obesity drug, including new arrhythmia and major cardiovascular complication counts. The data were presented at the American Diabetes Association meeting and published in The Lancet, adding detail to earlier efficacy announcements for the closely watched program. Across the study population, seven of 403 retatrutide-treated participants experienced arrhythmias, while three had major cardiovascular complications; the placebo group reported none. The company’s disclosure sharpens attention on tolerability as the program moves through late-stage development. The presentation came as competing GLP-1 and multi-agonist obesity regimens continue to broaden across diabetes and cardiometabolic indications. Regulators and clinicians are increasingly scrutinizing cardiovascular safety endpoints as these therapies scale.
