Eli Lilly’s obesity franchise jumped a tier higher after Phase 3 data for retatrutide reinforced the drug’s outsized weight-loss profile in people with obesity and type 2 diabetes. In the TRIUMPH-2 study, Lilly reported dose-dependent weight reductions up to 22% on the highest regimen over 80 weeks, alongside improved cardiometabolic markers including blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. The results add pressure to the broader GLP-1 and “triple-agonist” race, where competitors are also targeting larger, faster weight loss while trying to preserve tolerability. For formulators and prescribers, the data also sharpen expectations for long-term efficacy endpoints beyond glycemic control. Separately, at EASD26, new mid-stage and combination updates continued to frame the competitive landscape as companies refine dosing strategies and endpoint hierarchies in populations with both obesity and diabetes.
