CVS Caremark expanded formulary access for Eli Lilly’s oral obesity drug Foundayo and adjusted coverage for Lilly’s injectable Zepbound, narrowing Novo Nordisk’s earlier formulary advantage in the U.S. GLP-1 market. CVS said Foundayo will be placed on formularies June 1 and Zepbound will return as a preferred option starting Oct. 1, while Wegovy stays preferred. Lilly said the move effectively covers both Foundayo and Zepbound by all three largest U.S. pharmacy benefit managers, subject to employer plan decisions. Analysts pointed to the change as an expansion of addressable patients for Lilly’s oral and injectable assets. The update intensifies competitive access pressure across GLP-1 and next-gen obesity portfolios as PBM coverage can shift commercial adoption curves quickly, particularly for oral products still building traction.
