Eli Lilly reported additional safety and tolerability data for retatrutide, its next-generation obesity drug, in disclosures tied to the TRANSCEND-T2D-1 late-stage program. At the American Diabetes Association annual meeting and in The Lancet, Lilly said arrhythmias occurred in 7 of 403 retatrutide-treated participants, while major cardiovascular complications occurred in 3 participants versus none in placebo. The update frames the benefit-risk conversation as the company continues to build evidence beyond weight loss—particularly in people with diabetes, who have historically seen less weight reduction than those without. The trial results reinforce regulators’ focus on cardiovascular signals as obesity drug development accelerates. Separately, Lilly also presented efficacy performance at ADA26, continuing to position retatrutide against expanding GLP-1 and next-gen obesity pipelines.
