Novartis licensed Alteogen’s ALT-B4 (berahyaluronidase alfa) platform for subcutaneous drug delivery in a deal valued at up to $3.2 billion. The agreement grants option-based rights to develop and commercialize multiple subcutaneous formulations for eligible assets. ALT-B4 works by temporarily breaking down hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix under the skin, enabling co-administered biologics to disperse and absorb more quickly than standard subcutaneous delivery. The platform is designed to shift some therapies from slower intravenous administration toward outpatient-friendly injections. Novartis joins other large pharma partners that have pursued ALT-B4 licensing, reinforcing delivery innovation as a major lever for expanding usability and patient convenience across biologic pipelines.
