Novartis agreed to license Alteogen’s ALT-B4 (berahyaluronidase alfa) subcutaneous drug delivery platform via option agreements, with potential value up to roughly $3.2 billion. The deal is part of a broader strategy across biologics modalities to reduce reliance on slow intravenous infusion and instead enable faster subcutaneous administration. ALT-B4 works by temporarily breaking down hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix to improve dispersion and absorption of co-administered biologics. The agreement adds to a growing ecosystem of Hybrozyme platform licensing that already includes GSK’s Tesaro-related engagement and an AstraZeneca rights deal for oncology assets.
