The NIH launched Bio Genesis Mission, an AI-backed initiative intended to accelerate biomedical research across multiple development tracks. The effort sits within Genesis Mission, a broader program tied to a White House executive order, and will involve more than 15 federal agencies contributing research awards, datasets, and facilities. The White House said the program includes more than $5 billion in federal funds, with NIH directing more than $1.2 billion in obligated FY2026 funding and planned FY2027 allocations. NIH director Jay Bhattacharya said new funding opportunities will be announced soon. Bio Genesis Mission’s NIH scope spans six National Science Technology Challenge areas, including scaling biological manufacturing, strengthening biosecurity, accelerating drug development, boosting pediatric cancer research, and forecasting complex biological systems. The initiative also calls for cross-agency data infrastructure to connect molecular, genomic, phenotypic, clinical, and real-world datasets, with the goal of identifying new uses for existing drugs and advancing therapies into translation more rapidly.
