ATB Therapeutics presented its antibody-peptide fusion platform, dubbed “atbodies,” aimed at improving the therapeutic window versus conventional antibody-drug conjugates. Speaking at the Antibody Engineering and Therapeutics conference in Basel, Max Houry said the design targets off-tissue toxicity by using an enzymatic payload intended to act catalytically after cellular entry. ATB’s in vitro data described reduced toxicity for non-targeted cells compared with an ADC example carrying MMAE, with the payload designed to target the ribosome and avoid membrane crossover effects that can drive adverse events.
